Turf - Youth Services Rooted in Communities

Turf was developed by founders Stacey Quinn and Josh Clarke in the summer of 2016. The idea came after they both identified that there was a lack of youth provision in the Pollok community in the south west of Glasgow.

After completing their degrees in Community Education at the University of the West of Scotland specialising in Youth Work they both agreed on developing an organisation that would develop a space for young people that would provide opportunities for socialising with their peers alongside participating in informal learning opportunities that would increase confidence, raise self esteem and develop skills from working as a team, problem-solving and other necessary life skills.

The organisation is solely reliant upon funding from sources such as Big Lottery Fund which provided the group with its first grant through the Awards for All programme. This funding supported the organisation in the early development from running costs to developing the groups for young people to access a range of resources and equipment.

So far the journey with Turf has been widely noticed within the community and the response from local residents has been overwhelming. We hope that this continues in the future and that Turf will grow more and more to provide a variety of services and opportunities for both children and young people.

There are many ways in which you can support Turf from volunteering at one of our groups, donating money to support the delivery and development or by donating equipment we can use with the young people. All of which are highly appreciated and help Turf go a little further in the local comminty.
